Speed reduces when device is placed further away from ball's traveling trace

we noticed this when trying to check speed of our baseball throws. when we place the ipad near the ball's traveling trace, the speed always shows 40+ (we haven't bought the app yet). When the device is placed further away (but keeping the same angle and still placing it in the middle point between the pitcher and the catcher), the speed reads 30, 35, or something.

Yes, as per the setup instructions, the device needs to be placed exactly 20 feet away from the line of the ball. That is where it has optimal accuracy.

You can unlock speeds higher than 40 mph with the in-app purchase. We created up to 40 mph free so (1) it is free for kids and (2) if you are older, you can prove to yourself that the technology actually works before you purchased it to discover your actual top throw speed. Hope that helps!
